My management principles
The list below is the general management principles I have discovered during my career:
- Always have a plan B
- Use a belt and kruisbande (make double sure) of everything
- When planning use the 5 x W ( who must do what when and where and what thereafter)
- Planning principle: Use the 5 x P (Proper planning prevent poor performance)
- Feedback is the breakfast of a champion - feedback is important
- Interventions is a good way to improve where you find a peoples problem
- Debriefs is the way to enhance future performance
- Never leave a lion in the long grass - it will wait for you when you do not expect it
- A plan is a basis for change
- Time spent on a recce is time not wasted
- If something go wrong ask what has changed - if you can find that answer you can fix the problem
- Learn from the juniors - talk to them and they will tell a lot of your business
- Try and plan 3 levels down - then you will know what will happen most probably
- Keep a black book where you can "note" what will go wrong so that you can have a alternative plan ready to implement
- Do not let emotions influence you - what is the facts ad then act
- A coin has two sides - every story has two sides -mine and yours
- Use the system of warning orders - train your people in it
- Never do two important events at the same time - you will lose both
- People do tasks - it is not wise to be too much task orientated as it is wise not to be to people orientated
- Build on a persons strong points
